The predecessor of Kishu Railway, Gobo Rinko Railway, began commercial operations in 1931. The line was 1.8 km long and connected Gobo Station with Kii-Gobo Station.
In 1972, the railway was renamed Kishu Railway. Today, it is one of Japan's smallest railway lines, with a total length of 2.7 km connecting Gobo Station and Nishi-Gobo Station.
The DB158-type diesel locomotive was originally a 15-ton B-type tank locomotive manufactured by Yawata Steel Works after World War II. Due to rising coal prices, plans were made to convert it into a more fuel-efficient diesel locomotive. The conversion was completed in 1951 by the experienced Mori Works.
This model features a unique center-shaft drive mechanism. By selecting different parts, the specifications from different periods can be reproduced. It also uses realistic 5 mm small-diameter wheels.
The model shown in the product images represents the early specification, finished in the grape-purple color used when the locomotive was completed.
Commercialization of this product has been approved by Kishu Railway Co., Ltd.
The vehicle shown in the images is a test model with the parts assembled and painted.
