Prototype Info

• KATO presents a fully updated and newly re-engineered version of the early-release Yo 6000 caboose.

• Utilizing the latest tooling technology, this release features enhanced fine details alongside fully functional tail lights.

• Introduced as the successor to the Yo 5000, the Yo 6000 was widely deployed across Japan—from mainline dedicated freight trains to branch line local freights. Distinctive features include its three side windows and a shallower curved roof, giving it a lighter, more agile appearance than previous caboose models. A total of 905 units were built until 1969 (Showa 44), and they remained a familiar sight nationwide until conductor duties on freight trains were eliminated in 1986 (Showa 61).

• An essential rolling stock item when depicting Japanese National Railways (JNR) era freight trains. By installing an optional interior light, you can enjoy the realistic sight of both the tail lights and interior lighting illuminated at the end of your freight consists.

Key Features

• Recreates the appearance during the 1970s (Showa 50s era), complete with the white identification markings indicating the presence of a kerosene heater.

• Accurately reproduces the shorter wheelbase, shorter body length, and lower overall height compared to the Yo 5000, capturing its compact and agile form.

• Tail lights on both ends are fully functional (illuminated). Optional interior lighting can be added.

• Includes an interior light diffuser plate to recreate the soft, uniform glow of incandescent lighting.

• Includes a replacement dummy coupler to enhance realism at the rear of the train consist.

• Car number printed as "Yo 6522" with depot marking "南ツソ" (Shin-Tsurumi Depot).
