Product Description
The 50 Series passenger cars were introduced in 1977 (Showa 52) as general-purpose passenger cars to replace older models.
Even after privatization, they continued to operate as commuter trains throughout the country, serving commuters and students, until electric and diesel trains were introduced and passenger train services ceased.
This product recreates the red passenger cars affectionately known as "Red Trains" in the style of the early Heisei era.
The "JR" markings on the car body are also reproduced.
The 50 Series passenger cars were divided into several sub-series, with the sub-series used in cold regions such as Tohoku, San'in, and Hokuriku designated the 2000 Series.
The 2000 Series was equipped with electric heating, a key difference between different lines even among the similarly designed 50 Series cars.
This series mainly consisted of two types: the Ohafu 50 Series with a crew compartment and the Oha 50 type with an intermediate car.
Short or long formations could be formed by combining multiple trains or individual cars.
For reference, we recommend using the Ohafu 50 series train as a base for your train formation.

Product Information
- The 50 series passenger car, once known as the "Red Train," is recreated in a JR transitional form, featuring JR markings.
- In addition to the JR markings, the car numbers and the company logo (Akita) are also newly designed.
- The Ohafu 50 series passenger car has taillights on both sides, which automatically illuminate or extinguish depending on the direction of travel. The taillights are equipped with switches to simulate the state when the train is connected in the middle.
- The roof features an integrated ventilation opening as standard, but using the separately sold <11-551 50 Series Passenger Car Upgrade Parts Kit>, the ventilation openings can be modified into separate parts.
- The coupler is a standard Arnold coupler mounted on the bogie, but it can be converted into a body-mounted coupler using a separately sold telescopic coupler kit.
