The EF66 0-series late model, the locomotive that pulled the Tokaido and Sanyo Blue Trains during the final years of Japanese National Railways (JNR), has been completely renewed and is now available. Equipped with LED interior lighting, it has the traction power to handle a 15-car passenger train on a 4% gradient, making it compatible with a variety of layouts.
The actual locomotive was introduced in 1968 (Showa 43) by increasing the output of the EF65 by 50% to meet the demand for high-speed freight trains. It mainly served on freight trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines for many years, but in 1985 (Showa 60) it was selected to pull the Blue Trains on the same lines. After being transferred from JNR to JR West, all units were stationed at the Shimonoseki Depot (now Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Center), and continued to serve as Blue Train locomotives on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines, undergoing modifications to suit passenger cars.
Equipped with a slotless motor, it achieves smoother and quieter running performance than previous models. It also ensures sufficient traction power, allowing you to enjoy operating long Blue Train formations.
