● The Ou Main Line, which connects Fukushima and Aomori via Yamagata and Akita, departs Fukushima and branches off to the Tohoku Main Line, tackling the steep Itaya Pass, the first hurdle crossing the Ou Mountains, the backbone of the Tohoku region. In 1968, with the full-scale electrification of the Tohoku Main Line, the Itaya Pass section up to Yonezawa was also switched from DC to AC. At the same time, the Itaya Pass was double-tracked, significantly improving its transport bottleneck. The ED78 was introduced for use on the Ou Main Line, as well as the Senzan Line and Ban'etsu West Line, which have axle load restrictions. On the Ou Main Line, it hauled the Akebono sleeper express, 50-series passenger cars, and freight trains.

◆This product recreates the original configuration with a train radio antenna on the roof. Enjoy the former local trains of the Ou Main Line, Senzan Line, and Ban'etsu West Line alongside the EF71 JR-specification first-generation locomotive and the 50 Series 2000 JR-specification passenger car, both scheduled for release at the same time.
1. This model recreates the first-generation locomotive's large body with intermediate bogies, internally fitted taillights, and front vents.
2. The driver's cab side windows are faithful to the original.
3. The roof-mounted train radio antenna is also recreated.
4. The slotless motor ensures smooth and quiet running.
5. The headlights light up (using warm white LEDs).
6. The number plates include "ED78 3," "ED78 5," and "ED78 9."
7. The headmarks include "Akebono" and "Kamoshika."
8. Arnold couplers are standard equipment. Replacement knuckle couplers are included.
