The E8 Series is a new train model for the Yamagata Shinkansen, which began commercial operation in March 2024. Based on the E6 Series, the concept is "A train that weaves together rich cultures and hearts." To accommodate diverse travel needs, the train features enhanced features such as large luggage storage in all cars and additional wheelchair space. The exterior design, featuring the three colors of purple (Oshidori Purple), yellow (Safflower Yellow), and white (Zao Bianco), follows the Yamagata Shinkansen's previous designs and features an "arrow line" design with headlights positioned on both shoulders. Between Tokyo and Fukushima, the train is coupled with the E5 Series "Yamabiko" and operates at a top speed of 300 km/h. The E8 Series, the new face of the Yamagata Shinkansen, is now available in N gauge. In addition to being able to couple with the E5 series, you can also enjoy it in conjunction with the 10-2096 E3 series 2000 Yamagata Shinkansen "Tsubasa" new paint scheme, scheduled for release in June 2025. Hobby Center Kato also offers a powered bogie with traction tires, convenient for running the E8 series Shinkansen independently, the 28-281 E6 series Shinkansen "Komachi" powered bogie (with tires).
Key Features
① Included are the G2 formation (7-car set) and G3 formation (basic/add-on set) from the JR East Yamagata Shinkansen Rolling Stock Center.
② The front end features an "arrow line" design with headlights positioned on both shoulders.
③ Beautifully rendered bodywork, featuring colors inspired by Yamagata Prefecture's prefectural bird, the mandarin duck, and its prefectural flower, the safflower.
④ The pantograph cover features fins only on the pantograph arm mounting side.
⑤ Head and taillights light up. Car 11 (E811) comes with a light-off switch.
⑤ The headlights feature granular LEDs, while the taillights feature six lights above the driver's cab.
⑦ A slotless motor ensures smooth, quiet running.
⑧ Car 11 (E811) is equipped with a front-end coupling mechanism and no traction tires, allowing for coupling with the E5 series. Just like the real thing, coupled E8 and E5 series trains can be operated.
⑨ Destination signs on the side are printed on a black background. Destination sign stickers are included.
⑩ The basic set comes in the "Best Selection" package, making it easy to recommend even for beginners. A small relayer is included with the 7-car set.
