E231 Series Joban Line/Ueno-Tokyo Line 6-Car Basic Set
● The E231 series, which operates on the Joban Line, was introduced in 2002 as a replacement for the 103 series. It operates in 10-car and 5-car formations, and the longest E231 series commuter train is the 15-car formation. In addition to the blue-green stripe, which is the line's color, the train body also features a鶯色 (uguisu-iro, a type of greenish-brown) stripe to prevent passengers from mistakenly boarding the wrong train on the local line. Along with the E531 series for medium-distance trains, it operates on the Joban Rapid Line between Ueno and Toride, and on the Narita Line between Abiko and Narita. After the opening of the Ueno-Tokyo Line in 2015, its service area expanded further, extending to Shinagawa.
