●The E657 series debuted in 2011 as a limited express AC/DC electric train for the Joban Line and remains a flagship limited express train on the line, still in active service today.
In conjunction with the Ibaraki Destination Campaign in 2023, the E657 series was given a paint scheme inspired by the former E653 series "Fresh Hitachi," attracting attention not only from those along the line but also from many railway enthusiasts. The actual trains come in five different color schemes, and KATO will be releasing the blue-painted K1 formation as its fourth product in the lineup.
◆This train is recommended for collecting, as it can be seen passing by other trains operating within the JR East Japan area, including the Sendai area north of Haranomachi, such as the <10-2091~2093 E721 series various models> scheduled for release in April 2026, and is also a great addition to any collection featuring the currently ongoing five-color lineup.
