Consisting of a Class 402 power car, a first-class passenger car (Type 805.0), a restaurant car (Type 807.0), and a driving trailer (Type 808.0).

Deutsche Bahn operates the ICE 2 in the form of half-trains, each consisting of a power car, six intermediate cars, and a driving trailer. Two half-trains are coupled together to form a full trainset. Whenever possible, the trainsets run with control cars to control cars, allowing the power cars to reach a speed of 250 km/h at the ends of the train. However, combinations of power car/control car or power car/power car are also possible. The power cars of the 402 series differ from their predecessors primarily in their modified front, which can be opened for coupling. The control car is also equipped with this front.
