The T16.1 is ESU's first steam locomotive.

This finely detailed model is made mostly of metal and features a multitude of separately applied parts. Naturally, the prototypical differences are taken into account. The wheels with their thin spokes are also a real eye-catcher.

The model is depicted with largely worn wheel treads, which allows the wheel centers to have prototypical dimensions. This leaves enough room to design the wheel flanges in such a way that reliable operation on two- and three-rail track is possible.

To minimize compromises on the chassis, we only guarantee operation on curves with a radius of 420 mm or greater. Since the locomotives were used in local freight and shunting service, the models are fitted with a standard coupler pocket on both ends. Suitable hook couplers with non-magnetic hooks are included. Of course, the model emits smoke from the chimney in sync with the wheel and locomotive sound, controlled by axle sensors.

Naturally, we listened very carefully to the prototype when designing the sounds. For example, when going downhill, the acoustics of the Riggenbach counter-pressure brake can be switched to counter-pressure brake sounds using a function key.

For the first time in mass production, the lanterns are designed true to the prototype and are freestanding. When coal is shoveled into the firebox (acoustically), the firebox lighting also glows.
