Kiha 52 Metropolitan Area Color (M)

● The Kiha 52 is a powerful general-purpose diesel railcar equipped with two engines, based on the Kiha 20 series, and was introduced in 1958. While it shares a similar structure with the Kiha 20 series, its overall length was extended to 21.3m to accommodate the two engines, and it has one more double-pane window between the passenger doors than the Kiha 20 series. It played an active role in regional transportation on local lines throughout Japan, and was particularly heavily used on lines including steep gradients.

Even after the transition to JR, it was inherited by various companies and continued to operate, but was gradually retired as it was replaced by successor vehicles.

◆ From this product onwards, the car number and affiliation markings will be changed, and a warm white LED will be used in the light unit.

① This product models vehicles manufactured by Niigata Iron Works from October 1965 to August of the following year. Reproduces the form from the JNR (Japanese National Railways) era.
Metropolitan area color: A vehicle belonging to Tsuruga Depot around 1985.
② Beautifully reproduces the JNR diesel railcar general color and the orange metropolitan area color.
③ The sash of the side windows is silver, and the H-rubber part including the door windows is gray.
④ Gangway connection attached to the front of the WC side.
⑤ Uses a GM-5 motor-equipped power unit. Stable running is possible.
⑥ Head/tail lights illuminate (warm white LED used, with on/off switch).
⑦ Equipped with Arnold couplers.
