The JR Freight EH800 is the first dual-voltage AC electric locomotive since the transition to JR, replacing the ED79 and EH500, which were no longer operational on the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line following the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. It features an LCX antenna, a train radio system similar to that used on the Shinkansen, on the two end car bodies, giving it a distinctive bulge. In addition to pulling freight trains between Higashi-Aomori and Goryokaku, it also pulled the group-only "Cassiopeia Cruise" train from June 2016 to February 2017. Since 2022, all vehicles have undergone general inspections, and the JRF markings on the sides have been removed, the running equipment paint has been changed, and the undercarriage has been repainted a dark gray.
This lineup features the EH800, an AC electric locomotive primarily used in the Seikan Tunnel, in its current specification, with the JRF markings removed.
