Class 44 0104-8 heavy freight steam locomotive of the German State Railway (DR).

Many of the locomotives that remained in the country after the war were converted to oil firing by the DR. Until they were replaced by modern diesel and electric locomotives, the Class 44 locomotives formed the backbone of heavy freight service. Due to their enormous tractive effort, these locomotives were also known as "Jumbo." The last "thick-skinned" locomotives were decommissioned by the DR in 1986.
