Delivering 1200-horsepower from an updated 567A prime mover, the prototypes proved popular with both railroads and industrial lines, with nearly 500 produced from 1949 to 1951 with several still in service, each layout-ready model is packed with features including:

Based on prototypes built from 1949 to 1951 with:

- Phase One body as appropriate with arched front cab windows and louvered radiator cover for units built from 1949 to 1950

- Phase Two body as appropriate with straight front cab windows and wire grille radiator cover for units built from 1950 to 1951

- Dual tall conical exhaust stacks

- Large front radiator grille

- Single straight hood to cab transition

- 6 louvered side doors with letterboard gap

- Factory-installed grab irons on hood and cab

- With or without footboards as appropriate

- 4 styles of headlights to match prototype practice as appropriate:

PLEASE NOTE: When operating Walthers-branded DCC-equipped locomotives in DC mode, do not use power packs that exceed an 18V rating. This includes MRC 1300-series power packs which have known issues with our decoders.

Alternate horns and bell sounds can be programmed on the sound decoder using these CVs:
