Kato 10-1985 N Scale 381 SERIES "SUPER KUROSHIO" Basic Set (6-Car)

The "Super Kuroshio" debuted in 1989 after the 381 series Kuroshio trains were modified. The modifications included converting the SaRo 381 into a leading car with large front and side windows, creating a panoramic green car. Interior upgrades and a new design with white, red, and orange (cream yellow) accents revitalized the image of the 381 series, which previously ran in JNR colors. Initially a 6-car formation, 3 additional cars were added, making it a 9-car formation that connected the Kansai region to southern Japan.

Main Features

Recreates the 1990s "Super Kuroshio" in white with red and orange (cream yellow) stripes. The 6-car basic set: D651 formation, and the 3-car add-on set: D931 formation.
Each car features side destination boards, and the sealed appearance of the washroom windows is faithfully reproduced.
The Cro 380’s interior features a new 4-row seat layout, while the standard car replicates the pre-expansion seat pitch.
The distinctive body of the Cro 380 is faithfully reproduced, including its large front windows. The head display lights up and comes pre-installed with the "Super Kuroshio" nameplate. Additional plates for "Kuroshio" and "Hanwa Liner" are included.
The Cro 380’s skirt is reproduced without a snowplow.
The KuHa 381-501 front coupler includes a dummy coupler with electrical connections, reproducing the skirt without a snowplow. When creating a 9-car formation, additional couplers and skirts are included (basic set).
The KuHa 381-107 features a dummy coupler without electrical connections, and its skirt includes a snowplow.
The MoHa 380-501 includes a separate part to recreate the sealed gangway on car 6.
The KuHa 381’s destination display adopts a reversible train mark with options for "Super Kuroshio", "Kuroshio", "Hanwa Liner", and a blank option.
The KuHa 381 also features a whistle cover.
The MoHa 380's pantograph is a double horn type with a snow-resistant cover on the frame.
The intermediate couplers are body-mounted close-coupling types without hooks.
KATO's unique pendulum system tilts the car body inward when entering curves, just like the real train.
Equipped with a slotless motor, the train runs more smoothly and quietly.
Includes destination display stickers.
The basic set’s bookcase can hold the add-on set, allowing the full 9-car formation to be stored in one case.
